I have to say that the good thing about Des Moines is that it’s super easy to take day trips to some pretty poppin’ places, and that makes the little wanderluster in me veryyy pleased. Thankfully, Abigail was down to peace out of Iowa for the weekend and head to Chi town for a 5-hour road trip two weekends ago. Oh, and it just so happened that we went when the Cubs made it to the World Series, so that wasn’t a big deal or anything (more on all the craziness in Wrigleyville in a sec). Major sidenote: check out the end of this post for a code to get a FREE month of Rocksbox!
I’ve only been to Chicago one time before during college, so there were quite a few places to eat (and now drink!) that were on my ‘gram check list this time, and we got most of them covered in just a 48-hour trip. Last time I went it was March, so it was a wee bit icy and chilly, but this time it was perfectly cool and breezy.
We stayed at a hip, artsy Airbnb in Uptown, which was about 10 minutes away from the city, so Uber and Lyft weren’t TOO expensive, especially if you’re splitting with someone. So if you’re trying to save a little cash and don’t want to fork out the money to stay downtown, Uptown is a good choice. We basically Ubered everywhere to eat because #priorities. Here’s my must-eat places: The Hampton Social for an Instagram-goals brunch (they have a rosé all day sign to take photos in front of and live music), Snow Dragon Shavery for macaron ice cream sandwiches and Lou Malnati’s for seriously mouth-watering deep dish pizza.
We mostly ate, walked around, went to the Bean and took photos, but the most memorable moment was when we headed to a coffee shop right in Wrigleyville during the night of the big game, and it. was. chaos. People running around like there were no rules, banging on the diner windows, cars backed up for miles, trash everywhere — it was INSANITY. While I wouldn’t consider myself a sports fanatic, that was a pretty neat moment to be a part of.
Aside from the Chicago sports craziness, my favorite thing during the trip was of course taking pics around the city. The first day, I was so stoked to sport my new LC Lauren Conrad Runway Culottes (comfy AF), express crop sweater, leather jacket and fav tall booties. Buttt the best part may have been my new Rocksbox jewels. If you’re not familiar with Rocksbox, it’s a monthly jewelry subscription service that sends you a few pieces each month based on your personal style. Because it’s seriously adorable, gives you the option to buy the jewels you want to keep at a discounted rate (we’re talkin’ Kendra Scott people), I want to give you your first month for FREE!
